House Decoration for Hari RayaJust like any other kind of celebration around the world, we would decorate our house during Hari Raya with ornaments and others. Typically we would have:
Hari Raya Greeting Cards - These greeting cards have such sentimental values that they have become one of the iconic symbols for Hari Raya (Beside Ketupat, Pelita and few others).Nowadays traditional greeting cards are rivaling with E-cards and SMS (Text messaging). However traditional greeting cards are still in big demand.
Usually we would hang these greeting cards on a wall or put all of them inside a big rattan basket.
Pelita - A timeless classic decoration for Hari Raya. You need Kerosene to light up these lamps. Occasionally found in villages. But lately these classic oil lamps can be seen in the city area (Like mine hence the snapshot).Above photo shows the old classic design of Pelita, which is made of steel. Nowadays you can also find them in plastic - in variety of colors.
However due to safety precaution, folks living the city would only use these lamps for several hours. They put all the fires out before they go to sleep.
Another safety option is to buy LED version of Pelita.
LED Lighting - Hari Raya LED lights are the most common and popular light source during Hari Raya. Whether you are in a city or in a village area in Malaysia, you are bound to find houses with LED lights. These days you can find LED lights in a variety of shapes and sizes. From the typical light bulb shape to the beautiful Ketupat shape.
Some folks love to hang Ketupat (Skin) as well but we don't do that. Hence why I do not elaborate and post a photo of Ketupat. I know I can find a lot of Ketupat photos through Google but I would like to keep my blog completely original (From photos to the posts). I don't like the idea of people ripping my content and I am sure vice versa as well.Speaking about Hari Raya, I have received Duit Raya from one of my clients. Yay! Duit Raya is quite similar to Chinese New Year's Ang Pao. Duit Raya is a monetary gift presented in a small fancy envelope.
Only kids would receive Duit Raya. Typically an envelope would contain 5 bucks to 20 bucks. As a kid, you can easily compile 100 bucks during Hari Raya. Now I am no kid but I am sure lucky. 100 bucks in an envelope. Yeah, baby!
There are probably two more posts related to Hari Raya before I will officially close down this subject. I admit that I do not cover thoroughly on Hari Raya like I was hoping for but eh, what to do.Hopefully I can cover Hari Raya from A to Z next year. That is of course if my blog still exist on year 2009. Hur, hur...
100 bucks in an envelope. Yeah, baby!
Truthfully,
